13 summertime fashion trends This season is all the rage for the fashion set

In contemplating your apparel selection, it may be opportune to reconsider your wardrobe choices. Prepare yourself for a discourse on the imminent trends in the realm of fashion for the upcoming season.

The capricious nature of British weather notwithstanding, the current weather forecast reveals some remarkably notable figures. Hence, with a certain degree of caution – dare I say, a highly tentative one – it could be posited that summer has, in all likelihood, made its much-anticipated arrival. Naturally, with the official commencement of the season upon us, the endorsement of sandal/sunglasses/sundress ensembles seems not only reasonable but well-deserved.

Should you, like us, have spent the majority of this calendar year wistfully gazing out the window in hopeful anticipation of warmer days, the sudden imperative to contemplate a summer wardrobe might have taken you by surprise.

Fortuitously for us, the fashion industry, perennially ahead by a step – or rather, six months – has not only staged its spring/summer 2023 runways but also forecasted our wardrobe choices for the upcoming season long before we could muster a single contemplation. While adorning oneself with an anthurium flower across the chest (unless one is an unwavering Loewe aficionado) or clutching a meter-wide bag (albeit the allure of Louis Vuitton's offerings is undeniable) might not be a typical choice for a serene Tuesday morning in the office, the seasonal runways are, without a doubt, teeming with inspirations.

These dramatic runway embellishments may not necessarily translate directly into our everyday wardrobes. Nevertheless, one would be unwise to assume that the showcased trends will not exert a profound influence on the fashion terrain, regardless of where one typically procures their garments.

So, what sartorial revelations can we anticipate in the domain of spring/summer 2023 fashion trends?

The prior year's fixation on all things fuchsia gracefully yields to a gentler, pastel interpretation of pink, as black and cobalt blue emerge as the unexpectedly prominent hues of the season.

For those seeking a touch of allure, low-rise waists and diaphanous fabrics are set to proliferate, supplanting last summer's diminutive mini skirts that have faded from the fashion limelight. Simultaneously, florals, perennially associated with spring, receive a vibrant, three-dimensional upgrade. Should one lack the patience to wait three months to indulge, rejoice, for there exist trends well-suited to winter wardrobes, particularly the ensembles reserved for the festive season. From alluring boudoir-inspired eveningwear to high-octane sequins and ostentatious party bags (the glittering variety, as opposed to the plastic ones from the 90s brimming with Haribo, blow bubbles, and a neatly wrapped slice of cake), it would be judicious to invest in these spring trends several months in advance to maximize their value.

LOW-RISE WAISTS

Officially, the nineties' penchant for low-slung waists is experiencing a resurgence. From jeans to tailored suits, shorts to evening skirts, the low-rise treatment appears pervasive, suggesting a prolonged hiatus for our beloved high-rise styles in the summer of 2023. For a full midriff-baring impact, pair this novel look with a crop top.

FLOWER POWER

Despite Miranda Priestly's previous disparagement of florals in 2006, the upcoming season showcases these florals in a manner truly 'groundbreaking.' Elevated beyond the conventional spring floral trend, the next season sees these classic motifs assume a more pronounced three-dimensional role, emanating from shirts, draping shoulders, and even adorning torsos. While the latter may verge on excessive for a quiet dinner with friends, those unafraid of a standout fashion moment would do well to embrace this trend.

SHEER JOY

Sheer fabrics have been enjoying a moment for several seasons, and never more so than in spring/summer 2023. From dress overlays that add drama to a simple evening slip to more daring lingerie-inspired pieces, it provides a seductive means to layer and infuse a sense of sultry intrigue into a look, bypassing the conventional routes of minimal hemlines and plunging necklines.

PARTY BAGS

If these were the accoutrements distributed at the conclusion of soirées, perhaps fewer attendees would opt for a strategic early departure. These evening bags, in stark contrast to the plastic party bags of yesteryear filled with Haribo, blow bubbles, and a napkin-wrapped slice of cake, are adorned with lavish embellishments, adhering steadfastly to the ethos of 'more is more.'

COBALT BLUE

While fuchsia undeniably claimed the color throne in 2022, courtesy of Mr. Pierpaolo Piccioli's influence at Valentino's AW22 showcase, SS23 witnesses its deference as a vibrant blue hue takes center stage. The return of cobalt blue to the forefront of fashion trends is a most welcome development, splashed across dresses, jackets, skirts, and even boots. It would be wise to embrace this trend before the inevitable return to neutral wardrobes.

BOUDOIR DETAILING

Perhaps not a trend to experiment with in professional settings, SS23 seems poised to be an exceptionally sultry season with boudoir detailing at the forefront of eveningwear. Whether one opts for a provocative slip adorned with lace details or fully embraces the trend with a head-to-toe ensemble complete with hold-up stockings and lace gloves remains a personal choice.

SUMMER BLACK

An unexpected shade to dominate the spring/summer landscape, black emerges as an undeniable recurring theme on the latest runways. However, the color adopts a lighter touch than usual, with skin-baring fabrications like crochet and lace imparting an unexpected softness to the overall look.

HIGH-OCTANE SEQUINS

No need to wait until December to partake in sequin season. Traditionally associated with festive parties, 2023 boldly rewrites the rulebook, declaring spring/summer as the opportune time for glitz and glamour. Crucially, for SS23, the trend embraces a softer, lighter color palette, with pale pinks, nudes, and pastels poised to dominate.

HEART MOTIFS

While the season officially commences in late March, there's an unmistakable February 14th ambiance surrounding one of spring/summer 2023's standout trends. Heart motifs grace endless runways, adorning hips, legs, chests, and hemlines. Dresses, in particular, offer the perfect ensemble for a romantic date night, should one be inclined to wear their heart on their sleeve, or any other body part for that matter.

FULL-ON FRINGING

Fringing is certainly nothing novel, but the familiar design accent undergoes a considerable transformation next season – and I mean truly substantial. From fringed 'cuffs' commencing at the elbow to entirely fringed dresses, fringed clutch bags, and even literal fringes – if it
